Happy National Hockey Mom Day!

In 2010, the phrase ‘hockey mom’ found its way into the New Oxford American Dictionary:
hock-ey mom: noun. ‘A mother who devotes a great deal of time and effort in supporting her children’s participation in ice hockey’.
As we all know, there’s so much more to it than that. It’s early mornings in a freezing cold rink drinking lukewarm coffee after hours-long drives to be there 45 minutes before puck drop. It’s balancing packed schedules, chauffeuring your children and their teammates to afternoon and evening practices, and joking(?) about turning the conference room into an apartment because you spend 4 nights each week at the rink. It’s managing a team, making door signs, grabbing the extra Gatorade for post-game treats, and somehow finding time to make dinner so your kids don’t eat snack bar chicken strips every night. It’s airing your car out because the bag stink is lingering, finding the best formula concoction for washing gear, having no voice from cheering your heart out, turning an away tournament into an adventure to remember, and creating an experience for your team that makes the season special.
Today, on National Hockey Mom Day, we want to say thank you, we love you, and we couldn’t do it without you. Happy Hockey Mom Day from all of us at the Jr. Chiefs!
